The most important tasks of student trainees during their internship include:
1. Conducting French language classes under the supervision of a teacher-internship supervisor
2. Participating as observers in French classes conducted by the teacher-tutor.
The scope of tasks and activities carried out by the student during the internship includes:
becoming acquainted with the specifics of conducting language classes and subject classes taught in a foreign language at the academic level;
observing the work of an academic teacher, including the teaching methods used, forms of work, interactions with students, and assessment practices;
analysing teaching materials, evaluation tools, and documentation used in the process of language and subject instruction, both in traditional and digital form, including materials available on e-learning platforms;
analysing one's own teaching activities using feedback received from the course instructor and students;
cooperating with the academic teacher in planning and modifying teaching activities;
preparing and conducting – under the supervision of the academic teacher – parts of classes or full teaching units in on-site and asynchronous remote modes.

Assessment criteria
For preparing lesson plans, the student may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools (language accuracy of instructions in French). All other work/tasks must be completed independently by the student, without the use of AI tools.
Methods of verifying learning outcomes:
The internship is assessed on the basis of the documentation of its completion, submitted to the university internship supervisor. The documentation includes documents confirming that the student has met the substantive requirements and achieved the learning outcomes. The assessment consists of the following elements:
a) Preparation of lesson plans and other materials, along with notes from discussing lessons with the mentor. Two lesson plans from lessons conducted by the student are assessed (assessment criteria:
Lesson objectives – 2 pts – Clearly defined, aligned with the curriculum, and adapted to the students’ level.
Teaching content – 2 pts – Appropriately selected, suited to the class level and consistent with the lesson objectives.
Lesson organization – 2 pts – Logical structure with clear lesson stages; realistic plan feasible under the given conditions and within the allotted time.
Teaching methods and forms of work – 2 pts – Varied, activating methods, adapted to the objectives, content, and student group; appropriately selected and sufficiently diverse forms of work (individual, group, teamwork), supporting cooperation and engagement.
Teaching aids, including ICT – 2 pts – Varied, attractive, age-appropriate, supporting the achievement of objectives.
Language and style of the lesson plan – 2 pts – Correct language, didactic terminology, clear structure.
Total – 12 points
2 × 12 points = 24 points (learning outcomes: S_W02, S_W04, S_W10, S_U02, S_U07, S_U24)
b) Preparation of observation sheets from lessons observed by the student, including conclusions for their own teaching practice. Two observation sheets are assessed (criteria:
– Consistency of content with defined observation categories – 2 pts
– Completeness and thoroughness – 2 pts
– Substantive accuracy of conclusions – 2 pts
– Coherence and clarity of structure – 2 pts
Total – 8 points
2 × 8 points = 16 points (learning outcomes: S_W21, S_U08, S_U10, S_U27, S_K07)
c) Positive internship evaluation issued by the mentor. The following are assessed:
Methodological skills – 2 pts;
Didactic skills – 2 pts;
Communication and language skills – 2 pts;
Psychological-pedagogical skills – 2 pts;
Cooperation with the mentor – 2 pts;
Punctuality and attendance – 2 pts;
Openness to feedback and reflection on own practice, progress in knowledge and skills – 3 pts
Total = 15 points (learning outcomes: S_W02, S_U13, S_U16, S_U25, S_U27, S_U28, S_K02, S_K06, S_K07, S_K08, S_K12, S_K13)
2 × 15 points (two mentors) = 30 points
In total, up to 70 points can be obtained for the internship.
The following grading scale is used for the internship:
93–100% – very good (5)
87–92% – good plus (4+)
80–86% – good (4)
70–79% – satisfactory plus (3+)
60–69% – satisfactory (3); 42 points are required to pass
below 60% – unsatisfactory (2)
Student may receive an excellent grade (5!) if they have achieved the result required for a very good grade (5) and have demonstrated exceptional and outstanding activity and engagement in completing the internship.
30 hours of mandatory internship correspond to 2 ECTS credits.
Practical placement
Internships are carried out at UOKNJF UW.
