On 29th June 2022, the UW Rector, Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, signed the ordinance on establishing the Faculty of Medicine. After 70 years, the University of Warsaw once again provides studies in the medical field.

The University of Warsaw offers the material support for students and doctoral candidates, such as social grants, rector’s scholarships, accommodation in halls of residence. UW students, doctoral candidates and employees can count on psychological and legal support, including conflict and dispute resolution. RESEARCH

THE UW IS A POLISH LEADER IN ATTRACTING EXTERNAL FUNDING FOR RESEARCH – BOTH UNDER THE EUROPEAN UNION AND DOMESTIC GRANT SCHEMES.

The UW scientists conduct research on socially important issues in cooperation with scientific centres all over the world. The four flagship programmes under the 4EU+ Alliance meet this aim, as well as, the projects implemented within the EIT Food – European Knowledge and Innovation Community in the food sector, which forms part of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology. “EX C E LL E N C E – RESEARCH INITIATIVE UNIVERSITY”

Following the competition of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education entitled “Excellence Initiative – Research University”, the University of Warsaw was granted the research university status for 2020–2026. The additional funding has boosted the development of 5 priority research areas and the execution of 70 measures specified in the application, including programmes that support the development of employees, doctoral candidates and students. http://inicjatywadoskonalosci.uw.edu.pl/en/

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

  • The UW cooperates with 350 partner institutions through bilateral cooperation agreements.
  • The University is a member of ca. 100 national and international networks and associations, including Central European Network for Teaching and Research in Academic Liaison (CENTRAL), European University Association (EUA), or Network of the Universities from the Capitals of Europe (UNICA).
  • The UW academic community is strongly involved in international cooperation. Students take part in grant and internship programmes, academics participate in research projects and conferences, and university staff participate in international trainings on various fields of universities’ administrative activities.
  • In 2022, 3,558 students and doctoral candidates from abroad studied at the UW. Our University is the most frequently chosen by international students out of all Polish universities.
  • International exchange for students, doctoral candidates and employees is organised under Erasmus+ programme, Erasmus Mundus projects, bilateral agreements between universities, Visiting Lecturers Programme (guest lecturer grants), governmental agreements and research programmes.

DEVELOPMENT

GREEN INITIATIVES

The University of Warsaw runs pro-ecological actions and initiatives under the “Intelligent Green University” programme as well as the “Platform for Green Dialogue”. Also, the newest investments realised under the multi-annual development plan “University of Warsaw 2016–2027” are environmentally friendly.

MULTI-ANNUAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN

The UW implements the multi-annual development plan “University of Warsaw 2016–2027”. Its main objectives are: • enhancing the potential of the humanities and social sciences, and integrating them into innovative experimental programmes, • strengthening the international position of the University and increasing its role in fostering social and economic transformations. In order to achieve these goals, the programme includes construction of new buildings as well as expansion and reconstruction of the existing facilities.

On 29th June 2023, the Senate of the University of Warsaw adopted the UW Strategy for 2023–2032. The document is the result of extensive consultation with academic community.

4EU+ ALLIANCE FACTS & FIGURES

The 4EU+ Alliance is among the consortia selected by the European Commission for funding in the first pilot “European Universities” call for proposals, launched as part of the 2019 Erasmus+ programme.
