This course covers a wide range of literature, from poetry to nonfiction.
The course content is divided into thematic blocks:
BLOCK I: Literature Interpreted Through Screen Adaptations;
BLOCK II: Literature in Intergenerational Dialogue;
BLOCK III: Nonfiction vs. Literary Fiction Rooted in Reality;
BLOCK IV: Another Dimension of Literature (Comics, Writers in the Service of Cinema);
BLOCK V: Literature in Translation;
BLOCK VI: Theory and Methodology of Research on Women's Literary Creativity in Portuguese-Speaking Africa;
BLOCK VII: Orature in Contemporary Literature in Portuguese-Speaking Africa;
BLOCK IX: The Cosmopolitan Dimension of Literatures in Portuguese-Speaking Africa.

Learning outcomes
Knowledge:
- The student will have a basic understanding of the history of Portuguese-speaking African literature (20th/21st centuries). They will become familiar with basic terms and concepts characteristic of the literature and culture of this region during the aforementioned period.
- The student will have a basic understanding of the place and importance of the humanities within the academic system and their specific subject matter and methodology;
- The student will be familiar with the basic terminology of the humanities (particularly cultural studies, literary studies, and history);
- The student will be familiar with the basic terminology used in describing Portuguese-speaking African literature, culture, and history;
- The student will have a basic understanding of literary research methodology;
- The student will have a basic understanding of the history of Latin American literature in the 20th century;
- The student possesses the basic knowledge necessary to analyze the literary, cultural, and historical processes occurring in Portuguese-speaking Africa in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Skills:
The student is able to independently conduct stylistic and thematic analysis of literary works. The student appreciates the multifaceted nature of issues in the humanities. The student is able to systematize knowledge, monitor their own comprehension processes, and present the results of their research in oral and written form. The student is able to utilize other cultural texts in the analysis and interpretation of selected works [e.g., Film adaptations of literary works, artistic adaptations, translations into other languages, etc.] (H1A_U02, H1A_U03, H1A_U04, H1A_U05, H1A_U06, H1A_U09)
Social competencies:
The student understands the need for lifelong learning (H1A-K01, H1A_K02)
Assessment criteria
Project form the practical part.
As part of the course, students can participate in events organized by the Faculty of Modern Languages, such as academic conferences and lectures.
