Petrotectonics 1300-OPT4L
The course includes 30 hrs of lectures and lab classes focused on resolving problems of structural geology and petrology (tectonometamorphic reconstructions). The first part will be devoted to the macroscopic systematics of deformation structures in igneous and metamorphic bodies and the possible reconstruction of the sequence of tectonic events. Metamorphic structures and textures, facies and deformation mechanisms will be discussed. The second part will provide students with a variety of deformation and kinematic indicators. The third part will focus on the reconstruction of strain based on vein-mineral growth.

Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will be able to recognize and interpret microstructures in tectonometamorphic rocks. Students will also be able to find and analyze kinematic indicators, define deformation behaviors and determine the sequence of tectonic events.
Assessment criteria
Exam: The course is classified on the basis of a final test that requires students to recognize and analyze deformation structures in thin section. Students should also formulate conclusions regarding the origin and conditions of formation.of deformation structures.
Correction exam: The course is classified on the basis of a final test that requires students to recognize and analyze deformation structures in thin section. Students should also formulate conclusions regarding the origin and conditions of formation.of deformation structures
Absence limit – 2 times
