Art on Paper. How to Examine Prints and Drawings 5100-GRSP-OG

The objective of the course is to familiarize students with the collection of works of art on paper and their research methods. In particular, students get to know the extensive collection of the Print Room of the University of Warsaw Library. Participants will learn how to enrich research in various fields and disseminate their results through the artistic collections of University and similar museum and library resources. They will learn about famous artists and their work.
The class will bring an unique opportunity to work with original prints and drawings as the classes will be lectures with elements of seminar and workshop tasks.

During the course, the following issues will be discussed:

● Historical collections from the Print Room of the University of Warsaw Library – history and significance
● How to recognize the basic materials and techniques of prints and drawings
● Great masters and their work
● Architectural drawings
● Masterpieces on the paper as a research object – methodology and tools
● Prints and drawing in subject and interdisciplinary research (history, musicology, culture sciences, natural sciences, etc.)
● Role, function, importance, and use of prints and drawings.

Prerequisites (description)

(in Polish) Zajęcia będą prowadzone z wykorzystaniem oryginalnych dział sztuki. Przydatna będzie podstawowa wiedza z zakresu znajomości szeroko rozumianej kultury i sztuki. Zajęcia są jednak kierowane do wszystkich studentów i studentek, a zakres tematyczny dostosowywany do uczestników zajęć.
