Epistemology of religious experience: reading ‘St. Idiot’ by Cezary Wodziński 3800-EDR24-S-OG
Cezary Wodziński's ambition to philosophically capture the meaning of the Byzantine jurodive topos and, in reflection from it, indicate a possible direction of what the author wanted to call apophatic anthropology, which we would rather define today as a philosophical search for the definition of holiness where it is irritating, disturbing, unbearable, unpleasant, rebellious.
At the same time, "St. The Idiot” by Cezary Wodziński remains an outstanding original undertaking within the framework of Polish philosophy of religion. The phenomenon of jurodive is a bold attempt to conceptually outline the philosophical content.
The classes will be based on joint reading of the book "St. The Idiot” by Cezary Wodziński and then a reconstruction of the structure of the author's views with particular emphasis on the epistemological means and strategies used to capture religious experience.
The classes will complement students' knowledge of important books in the field of philosophy of religion and contemporary Polish philosophy and may constitute a good starting point for further independent studies of the views of philosophers of religion.
The seminar is intended for students interested in the problems of philosophy of religion and epistemology.
The classes are a continuation of the Epistemology of Religious Experience classes from the academic year 2023/2024.
