Foreign Policy of Azerbaijan 3600-TU-FPAZ-OG
The subject is devoted to the study of the building of the Foreign Policy of modern Azerbaijan from the beginning of 20th century and to its international position in the World Political stage today. So, the subject implies the consideration of the foreign policy of the first Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (1918-1920), some interesting facts about the position of Azerbaijan at the Soviet epoch and all aspects of international policy of Azerbaijan since the proclamation of independence (1991) till modern times. Previously the brief essay about the traditions of Azerbaijani diplomacy from the middle ages will be introduced as well. Today Azerbaijan is:
• an important part of post- Soviet area owing its own energy resources
• an important part of the Southern Caucasus exposing its geopolitical stance
• an important part of Turkic world as a largest Turkic population in Southern Caucasus and Western-Caspian region
• an important center of multiculturalism as the country of the Islamic traditions in the frame of a secular society
These facts stipulated the background for the membership of Azerbaijan in the main international organizations (UN, OIC, CIS, ets.), the foundation of diplomatic relations with the different states of the world (with the countries of CIS, the countries of East, USA and Europe). Also we could consider the changes of position of Azerbaijan because of the certain historical events in the world at the edge of 20-21 cc. The policy of Azerbaijan is closely connected with its energy resources and occupation of Karabakh, which today became one of the main themes of the Conflict Studies.
