Geopolitics of neocolonialism. On neocolonial connections between Asia and Africa 3600-KM-GN-OG
The workshop aims to introduce students to the issues of postcolonial theory and familiarize them with the concept of neocolonialism. The goal of the workshop is to expand students' knowledge of the ongoing changes in the international order and to give them the tools to think critically about the subject.
Students will begin their journey with the subject by outlining the history of European colonialism in the countries of the Global South, particularly Asia and Africa. They will have the opportunity to discuss the topic and reflect on how European colonialism has affected the contemporary situation in these regions.
Next, students will be introduced to the topic of neocolonialism, the so-called modern form of colonialism, which manifests itself through unequal relations between superpowers and poorer countries.
In addition to the concept of neocolonialism itself, the workshop will focus on two broadly understood regions – Asia and Africa – and the dynamics of relations between selected countries from these regions. Students will contemplate whether the contemporary relations between Asia and Africa can be described as neocolonialism. Students will have the opportunity to discuss this topic and develop their own position on it.
