Introduction to the religion of ancient Egypt 3600-EG-IRAE-OG
The course provides a concise overview of the religion of ancient Egypt from the Predynastic times until the beginning of the Roman era (approx. 5000 BC - 30 BC). The course presents the different religious concepts of ancient Egypt in their cultural context thereby providing a more coherent interpretation.
It is designed in a way that students without prior Egyptological knowledge will be able to understand the integration of Egyptian religion and culture.
Both written and material sources are examined and discussed throughout the course thereby introducing the students to ancient material alongside the most contemporary discussions about ancient Egyptian religion.

-Analyse ancient sources, construct and present an argument, and historical overview of ancient Egyptian religion.

-Awareness of the cultural specificity of ancient Egypt and its significance for understanding the modern world
-Awareness of significance of the culture of the ancient Egypt and its relation to its history and religion
Assessment criteria
Taking part in classes – 30% of the final mark
Multiple choice test at the end of the semester
