Hieroglyphs for beginners 3600-EG-HP-OG
The classes consist of theoretical and practical part. The participants will learn about the language and writing of ancient Egyptians; they will be familiarised with the basics of Middle Egyptian grammar and writing systems, as well as with tools that are used today to read documents written on papyri, ostraca and stone walls. During the practical part, the participants will apply the acquired knowledge to read and write simple words and/or phrases in hieroglyphs (for the most ambitious ones, a short course in Egyptian curses will be provided).

Knowledge:
- have the basic knowledge about the Middle Egyptian language;
- have the knowledge about the Egyptian hieroglyphic writing system;
Skills:
- correctly recognise the main elements of Egyptian monumental inscriptions;
Competence:
- be aware of the cultural difference and its religious, philosophical, moral and historical sources and its meaning for the understanding of the contemporary world.
