Literature seminar : Famous and lesser-known works of literature of the French Enlightenment 3304-1DZXW-KL-03-OG
The seminar, held in Polish, will discuss well-known, little-known or rarely subjected to literary analysis texts of eighteenth-century French literature. Various issues will be discussed in the interpretation of selected texts, including:
- the periodisation of 18th century French literature
- the birth of the philosopher
- literary disputes
- devotion, hypocrisy, fanaticism, the emancipation of women
- philosophical issues (e.g. the theory of optimism)
- epistolary works

K_W02 Students will know and understand in a systematic way the history of French literature of the 17th and 18th centuries, including the chronology of the epochs and their evolution, the most important dates, the names of authors, the titles of their works and literary phenomena.
K_W03 Students will know and understand the specialised terminology, methodology, subject matter and research directions specific to French literary studies.
K_W08 The student knows and understands the multifaceted connections between French literature and historical-cultural processes.
K_U13 The student is able to acquire knowledge and develop skills independently using relevant sources.
K_K05 The student is ready to care for the preservation of French cultural heritage.
K_W09 The student knows and understands to an advanced degree selected events in the history of France of the 17th and 18th centuries and important aspects and realities of its culture.
Assessment criteria
Attendance is compulsory. Two unexcused absences are permitted. Credit for the course is by individual assessment.
