After the Revolution, France entered a phase of modernity, one of the features of which was the acceleration of the evolution of forms of artistic creation and the succession of subsequent avant-gardes. Paris - as in other areas - became the capital and mecca of European culture and this state lasted until the interwar period. The classes will be devoted to the most important and representative phenomena, composers and works of classical music of the 19th and first half of the 20th century.

Learning outcomes
After completing the classes, students will be able to:
– characterize selected phenomena in the musical culture of France in the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century (K_W05),
– use basic concepts and corresponding terms used to describe culture (K_K02, K_U01, K_U03),
– use various sources and methods, including modern information technologies, to search, analyze, evaluate, select and use information necessary to participate in classes (K_U09, K_K01).
Assessment criteria
The classes end with a final grade.
Continuous assessment, presentation assessment, assessment of the colloquium at the end of the semester.
