History of French Literature - Middle Ages and XVI century 3304-1DP1O-HLF1-OG
The aim of the lecture is to show the most important features of French medieval and Renaissance literature and the evolution that has taken place during this period. We will stress the continuity of certain traditions, their modifications or rejection. This will concern strictly both literary issues (genres, conventions, type of reception) and cultural phenomena, as literary texts will be presented in the context of mentality, social life and intellectual and spiritual explorations of the epoch. They will be an example to show the evolution of the media, religion, the role of women, relation to the body, love and family life, the image of death, knowledge, power and its contestation (social critique, laughter).
