Polish-Italian contacts in XVIII-XXI centuries: politics, culture, literature. Selected Issues. 3223-KPW2-OG
The lecture is addressed to people interested in international affairs: politics, culture as well as literature and international relations in the last four centuries, with particular emphasis on Poland and Italy. Both countries are connected by historical political, military, cultural and literary contacts. After a short historical introduction, diplomacy in the times of King Stanisław August Poniatowski will be discussed, including the role of temporarily staying Italians (Casanova, Marcello Bacciarelli, Bernardo Bellotto and others) as well as political missions of Poles to Italy (Niemcewicz, Poniatowski - the king's nephew and others) and the culture of these contacts. The 19th century is not only cultural and literary relations, but a very important brotherhood of arms, i.e. military contacts (Garibaldi, Mierosławski, Langiewicz) and diplomatic contacts (Tommaseo, Mazzini - Mickiewicz contacts, diplomacy after the January Uprising (Marco Minghetti). part of the lecture will discuss political and military contacts during World War I (the role of Michał Lityński) as well as the intensification of diplomatic contacts between Poland and Italy in the 1920s and 1930s, as well as the Polish presence in Italy during World War II. political relations were accompanied by relations in the field of culture and literature, this also applies to the post-war years. Several lectures will be devoted to literary translations of the most eminent Italian writers, together with the profiles of translators. will be devoted to both political relations and Polish presence in Italy cultural institutions, as well as Polish-Italian contacts already in the 21st century.
