Polish language course - pre-intermediate level A2 3004-POLOA2
At this level, a student understands the most commonly used vocabulary and expressions concerning his/her closest areas of life (eg. information about himself/herself, family, work, health and appearance, shopping, food, environment). S/he captures the main point of expression in short and clear communications. S/he can find specific, predictable information in simple everyday material such as advertisements, menus, timetables, private letters and simple e-mails. S/he can communicate in a routine communication situation requiring direct exchange of information on familiar topics. S/he can cope with simple social situations, even if s/he does not understand everything. S/he can make a short, simple note and take a message regarding matters related to emergency needs. S/he knows how to write a personal letter, e-mail and text message.

Grammatical issues
The course gives an opportunity to revise and develop the knowledge of grammatical issues learned before. The new syntactic and semantic functions of cases and verb forms are being thought. This concerns first of all the declension of pronouns, the verb moods, the comparison of adjectives and adverbs and the syntax of numerals.
Categories of communication function
1. Greetings and other phrases necessary in social contacts.
2. Eliciting information, language mediation.
3. Acting by words: suggestions, commands, requests and answers to them.
4. Modality: certainty, possibility, necessity.
5. Expressing assessment: opinions, preferences, agreeing and disagreeing.
6. General categories: time, location, quantity, quality.
Skills
1. Listening and reading comprehension of simple texts in Polish.
2. Participating in simple conversations on topics concerning everyday life.
3. Writing simple texts on familiar topics, eg. personal letters.
The use of Artificial Intelligence tools, as well as online translators, is possible only when consulted with the lecturer. Without the teacher's approval, it is forbidden to utilize such tools.
In written assignments, it is necessary to point out all the fragments taken from other authors' works, e.g. from articles available online. Plagiarism is a serious academic offense.

Learning outcomes
Having completed this course a student will understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters, regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. S/he can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. S/he can produce simple text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. S/he can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. S/he will be able to participate in a simple conversation providing that an interlocutor speaks slowly, clearly and is ready to help.
Assessment criteria
Stationary course:
- Final test at the end of the course – 40%
- Midterm tests / presentations – 20%
- Home assignments – 20%
- Active attendance at classes – 20%
To obtain a course credit at the end of the semester, a student must show achievements in each of the above categories and pass the final exam (a student who receives 0% in one category, will not receive a pass).
