Interpersonal communication 2100-MON-KOIN-OG
During the course, students will learn the basic issues of communication theory such as types of communication, models of communication, specifics of the channel and message, effective listening, types of codes, decoding, barriers, speech genres, problems in word interpretation (e.g. denotative and connotative words, Ogden and Richards' semiotic triangle).
In addition, they will learn techniques useful in conducting disputes and negotiations including the principles of rhetoric and eristic (polemical tricks, answering difficult/uncomfortable questions, speechmaking, elements that increase the credibility of speech).
Knowledge of methods of influencing the audience and techniques of effective communication (Cialdini, neuro-linguistic programming, conversation structure) is also an important part of the class.
Part of the class is devoted to paraverbal and non-verbal communication (kinesics, haptics, proxemics, facial expressions, oculestics, olfactics, chronemics, aparation), in the context of the ability to interpret the interlocutor's message (e.g. detecting lies), but also awareness of the meaning of the signals sent.
A complementary theme is cross-cultural communication, analyzed in relation to anthropological models of cultural differences and elements that hinder the interpretation of messages when people from different regions of the world come into contact (mental barriers and differences in verbal, para-verbal and non-verbal communication).
