Renaissance diplomacy and the rise of permanent diplomatic missions. Modern diplomacy and the development of international law. Congress of Vienna, international cooperation & the balance of power. The twilight of secret diplomacy & the League of Nations. The United Nations, international organisations, decolonization & integration processes in foreign policy. The Cold War, disarmament negotiations and the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe. Evolution of modern diplomacy after the end of the Cold War. The new actors in diplomatic relations. Summits & Track Two diplomacy. Challenges of globalisation, cultural diversity, demographic, technological & climate change, terrorism.
