Nuclear energy and radioactivity 1200-EJIP-OG
Basic treatment of the nucleus, with analogy to concepts in chemistry. Nuclear stabilities and associated radioactive decay processes. Nuclear structure. Standard Model (quarks) and methods of obtaining of elementary particles. Types of radiation and the interaction of radiation with matter. Applications of natural artificial isotopes in science and technology and in medicine. Radioactive contamination, radioactive waste, its storage and utilization. The influence of ionization on living organisms and on the environment. Types of nuclear reactors currently used. New ideas in construction of nuclear reactors, e.g. high temperature reactors (HTR), which can be used in hydrogen energetics (production of hydrogen) and/or in the synthesis of fuels (e.g. Fisher-Tropsh reaction). The concept of a safe nuclear reactor, Rubii reactor. Myths and misunderstandings of the Czernobyl accident. A dark side of nuclear energetics - nuclear weapons. Basics of thermonuclear energy and the perspectives of its use
