Academy of Polish Film 8112-APF-OG

Academy of Polish Cinema is a full, two years long study of the history of Polish moving picture. Whole idea was born as a initiative of Polish Institute of Moving Pictures Art with cooperation from Polish Cinema Fundation, Filmoteka Narodowa, Association of Polish Moviemakers. This idea refer to early project from Polish Institute of Cinema Arts - celebration of one hundred years of Polish cinematography - especially well received in Poland and also abroad - exhibition under the title "100 years of Polish motion picture.1908 - 2008". Positions from that event has been included in curriculum of Academy. There is a notion that over the years significance of Polish cinema arts was underestimated. In different times and for a different reasons this branch of fine arts was a subject of unjustified criticism. Popularity and artistic values questioned, role in awakening of collective consciousness disregarded. On the other hand evolutionary rhythm of Polish cinematography, although uneven , erratic and marked by obstacles /from commercial nature to political/, became -especially at the highest levels - more and more visible. We had and have world class actors,directors and have been able to make motion movie classics, recognized all over the world. Not too many other disciplines of our arts has been able to obtain degree of world recognition such as Polish cinematography.
96 titles contained in proposition of Academy, study in the span of four semesters shows achievement of Polish cinema in a wide spectrum of well known names, different trends and subjects.

The bases for choosing those 96 titles were fulfilling these criteria: degree of achievement, artistic exploration and - foremost - favorable reception by the public. Chronological construction of this program will be helpful in learning about tendencies dominating in different times and directions. To avoid overrepresentation - and this is by design - some works of outstanding authors are omitted. This will allow to show single but important works of some other directors.
Academy of Polish Cinema is supplementing humanistic curriculum in many of the most renown Polish Universities. Our lecturers are most outstanding cinema and movie experts from many academic centers in our country. We are very proud of them and they are the best. Each of them represents vast, universal knowledge in connection with intimate knowledge of
given subject: author, his work, his times and style.
