Upon completion of the course at this level, the student will understand expressions and the most frequently used vocabulary relating to the areas of life closest to him/her (e.g. basic information about oneself and one's family, about shopping, about one's city and region, about one's working environment). S/he will be able to grasp the main meaning of short and simple texts. Will be able to find detailed, predictable information in simple, everyday material such as advertisements, prospectuses, menus, timetables and simple personal correspondence. S/he will be able to communicate in routine situations requiring a simple, straightforward exchange of information on familiar topics. Will be able to cope with simple social situations, even if he/she cannot understand everything and cannot yet maintain a conversation on his/her own. He/she will be able to use a series of phrases and sentences to describe his/her family and other people, his/her living conditions, his/her educational background and his/her present and recent work. He/she will be able to draft a short, simple note and write a message concerning an emergency. S/he will also be able to write a simple personal text such as a thank you note, an email and a text message.
