Philosophy of Interreligious Dialogue – Variety of Perspectives 3800-FDM25-S-OG
The seminar aims to analyze interreligious dialogue and its philosophical foundations. Although it is a continuation of a seminar from earlier years, it does not presuppose knowledge of specific texts, but only interest in the phenomenon of religiosity, orientation in teaching at least one religion and knowledge of basic philosophical concepts and the ability to read English. Serious interreligious dialogue is largely the result of efforts made after World War II, although it obviously has precursors. Consideration of many bilateral interreligious dialogues will make it possible to learn about open interpretations of many religious traditions. The book, which will be the basis of this year's seminar, "The Wiley-Blackwell Companion to Inter-Religious Dialogue" (edited by Catherine Cornille, 2013), generalizes the experience of many meetings. Among its authors are well-known pioneers and analysts of dialogue, e.g. Leonard Swidler and Paul Knitter. The variety of cases considered gives material for a philosophical reflection on religions, their relationship, as well as the role and future of religion in the modern world.
