Culture Security in Central and Eastern Europe 3620-CS-SP-OG
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the main issues of Poland's strategic culture. Issues such as identity, cultural interplay, and reflection on the stages of national cultural development will be addressed. Students will develop research skills during the course and learn to independently acquire knowledge with the support of a research supervisor.
The following topics will be discussed:
1. Theories of social conflict (Part I).
2. Theories of social conflict (Part II).
3. Intercultural competences for security — intercultural communication.
4. Small social structures.
5. The nation — an anthropological perspective.
6. The nation — a political perspective.
7. From nation to nationalism.
8. Within the sphere of ideology.
9. State formation — an introduction.
10. The state — the citizen.
11. National and Ethnic Minorities in the Politics of Central and Eastern European Countries—Introduction.
12. Societal Security.
13. Cultural Security.
14. Real Threats to Cultural Security in the 21st Century—Selected Examples.
15. Forecasting Threats to Cultural Security—Analytical Futurology.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will:
[Knowledge:]
1) have a basic understanding of the theoretical and methodological approaches of the humanities, particularly cultural studies.
2) have a basic understanding of the terminology of cultural studies, taking into account the research perspective of Central and Eastern Europe (fields, texts, and researchers in the field of cultural studies) and the specific development of these disciplines in the countries of the region; have a basic understanding of the terminology of related disciplines, essential for exploring and understanding the cultural phenomena of the countries of the region.
3) have a basic understanding of the specificity of various models of culture from an anthropological perspective (traditional, noble, bourgeois, mass), their transformation processes and interconnections, and their emanations in the symbolic and semiotic spheres, and thus in the spheres of culture and art, literature, and history of Central and Eastern European countries.

4) search for, select, analyze, and utilize necessary information from various sources.
5) develop research skills and independently acquire knowledge with the support of a research supervisor; Skillfully formulate thoughts and present research results in the form of oral or written statements (various types).

6) Is willing to critically evaluate their knowledge, pursue continuous training, and expand upon their acquired knowledge.
