Introduction to Classical Ethiopic (Ge'ez) 3600-WdKJE(Z)-OG
In the winter semester the students will learn the Ethiopic script and the basic structures of the Ge'ez language.
In the summer semester the classes will involve reading and translating Ge'ez texts of gradually growing level of difficulty.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student:
* knows the basic facts about Ge'ez language and literature and their importaince for other areas of humanities
* has rudimentary knowledge of translation rules from the Ge'ez language into Polish
* knows and understands basic analysis and interpretation methods of the products of Ge'ez literary culture
* use the basic terminology from the domain of the orthodox Christianity of Ethiopia
*read, analyze and interpret literary texts and other works of the Ge'ez literature and appropriately place them in their cultural context
* can translate literary texts and writings from the Ge'ez language into Polish
* use electronic and internet tools dedicated to the Ge'ez language and literature
* perceives the positive socio-cultural values of Ethiopia and possibility to use them in own personal development and effective intercultural communication
Assessment criteria
Oral examination after each semester
Assessment of individual progress thoughout the semester
The final grade consists of:
* oral examination 60%
* assessment of work during classes
In case of absence on more than a half of the overall number of classes, the teacher has a right not to allow a person to take the exam.
