Practical Mongolian through the world of culture and art 3600-SJW-PSKS-OG
The classes are designed to familiarize the student and deepen his knowledge of Mongolia, in particular issues related to Mongolian traditional and contemporary culture and art. Each of the following thematic blocks is combined with learning useful phrases in Mongolian, and script:
1. Historical and geographical introduction about Mongolia.
2. Basic information about the traditional culture and social issues of the Mongol people.
3. Characteristics of the main Mongolian monuments of architecture, art and religion.
4. Analysis of Buddhist and contemporary art in Mongolia.
5. Mongolian applied art.
6. Cultural changes and globalization in Mongolia in the 21st century.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student acquires skills, social competences and knowledge.
Knowledge:
The student discusses the basic, traditional Mongolian customs and the main monuments of Mongolian culture, architecture, literature, art and religion.
The student describes Buddhist, contemporary and applied art in Mongolia.
The student explains the historical background of the Mongolian country.
The student discusses cultural changes in Mongolia.
The student specifies basic phrases in Mongolian language.
The student characterizes the Mongolian language system in the basic scope.
The student specifies and recognizes the basic Mongolian vocabulary.
Skills:
The student communicates with the environment in simple social situations.
The student uses orally and in written basic grammar structures.
The student translates information contained in simple materials into Polish.
The student reads and applies a script used in Mongolia.
The student uses the physical map of Mongolia.
The student analyses the diversity of cultures of nomadic peoples and Western countries, finds ways to create intercultural understanding.
Social competences:
The student works in teams and develops self-presentation skills in front of the group.
The student explains the importance of understanding the value of cultural diversity in the world and the concept of tolerance towards foreign language users.
The student applies the principles of Mongolian savoir-vivre.
Assessment criteria
Current control: individual or group play at the beginning of each class checking the knowledge of previous classes in the form of puzzles, rebuses, quizzes, tests, maps, Q & A sessions, short presentations.
Final control: The student will describe basic Mongolian traditional customs as well as the main monuments of Mongolian culture, literature, art and religion - one question on each subject. The student will correctly read and translate the sample menu / price list / ticket / map / information sign / short Mongolian note. The student will self-present in Mongolian and ask about the direction or how to get to the place and list numerals. The student will communicate with the environment in a random social situation. The student will apply basic grammar structures. The student will write a short message in Mongolian. The student will demonstrate a basic knowledge of vocabulary. The student will illustrate cultural differences between nomadic peoples and representatives of Western culture on several examples and explain how important their understanding is.
The grade of the classes consists of the following elements (a positive grade should be obtained from each criterion):
- activity during classes - 25% of the grade,
- the results of partial tests, homework - 20% of the grade,
- final test result - 55% of the grade.
Grading scale: 60-74% - satisfactory, 75-88% - good, 89-96% - very good,> 96% - excellent.
