Ukrainian language and culture 3600-SJW-JKU-OG
Based on text and audiovisual materials, students will learn oral and written communication as well as vocabulary and the basics of grammar. Students will be able to understand basic sentences of language users. They will be able to communicate in everyday situations using simple sentences. The following topics will be discussed during the conservatory:
1. Introducing yourself. Honorifics. Linguistic etiquette, linguistic constructions. Alphabet.
2. Basic information about Ukraine. Simple nomenclature related to geography and history.
3. Everyday life, man, names of activities. Days of the week, seasons. Linguistic constructions related to the topic.
4. Family and family ties. Numbers, hours.
5. Dream house, colors. Where is the ground floor? Sale, purchase and rent. Linguistic constructions related to the topic.
6. In the store, changing money, at the bank.
7. Holidays and days off (Easter, Christmas, St. Andrew's Day, Spasa, Easter egg making). Calendar, months. Basic nomenclature.
8. Regions of Ukraine, linguistic map.
9. Folk costumes. Main cities of Ukraine.
10. Music - Ruslan, Okean Elzy; painting (Iwan Marczuk), architecture (Władysław Grodecki), cinema.
11. Cuisine, Ukrainian dishes. Fruits and vegetables. Lexicon related to the topic.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course and confirming the achievement of learning outcomes, the student is able to read texts in Ukrainian and is able to formulate short statements in speech and writing. He will have basic knowledge of Ukrainian geography and culture, and will be able to find his way in the Ukrainian environment. The student will be aware of the cultural and customary differences of the modern world.

Methods:
The course is based on the following methods: eclectic method, cognitive method, interactive exercises and practical exercises.
Teaching techniques: using songs, tongue twisters to improve pronunciation, listening comprehension, working in pairs (dialogues), using fragments of films and fairy tales.
If online work is required, classes will be conducted via Zoom
The final grade consists of the following elements:
-final test result – 50%
- presence – 40%
- activity during classes – 10%
Rating scale:
99-100% - 5 (excellent)
93-98% - 5 (very good)
87 – 86% - (good)
71-76% - 3 + (sufficient plus)
60-70% - 3 (sufficient)
In addition, the teacher will define the rules and criteria for passing the exam during the first class. In the case of classes lasting 30 hours, you may miss 2 classes per semester without excuse. The grade is entered into the USOS system.
