Religious Rites, Practices and Restrictions (Religion and Society in Asia and Africa) 3600-RA-RRPR-OG
A survey of main religious rites, rituals and restrictions applied based on the practiced religion will be provided on the selected examples with a focus on Buddhism and Islam including a detailed description of religious norms of Islamic practice (prayer, fasting, pilgrimage, almsgiving), restrictions and orders relating to customs and social life. Students will be familiarized with Buddhist practices of Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana orders (including ritual dance cham, ritual gcod etc.)
