Workshop-Psychological aspects of intercultural communication 3600-KM-PAKM-OG
The goal of the workshop is to explore the specifics of intercultural communication from a psychological perspective. The sessions will include an analysis of cultural differences in communication (both verbal and non-verbal), such as various communication styles (e.g., high vs. low context, direct vs. indirect communication, linear vs. circular communication). Special attention will be given to psychological constructs and mechanisms shaping the communication process, such as cultural values and norms, cultural rules for expressing emotions, and their role in building and maintaining social interactions.
The workshop will enable students to explore key cultural dimensions relevant to communication (e.g., proxemics, approach to time, assertiveness) and identify major challenges such as language barriers and ethnocentrism. Strategies to address these challenges will be discussed and practiced during the sessions.
The workshop has a practical focus: students will have the opportunity to understand their own communication preferences and work on real-life case studies, facilitating the development of effective communication skills in multicultural environments.
