The classes include reading and interpreting sources and historical studies on the Middle Ages and the modern period, as well as discussing them. The classes are held in a workshop format, and students learn the methods of working with historical studies, ways of discussing historical texts, and interpreting them. The topics of the classes include the history of European-Japanese relations from the mid-16th century to the end of the Edo period.
