Contemporary India: history, society and culture 3600-IWHSK-OG
This course will provide students with a brief overview of Indian history (from ancient times, but with focus on contemporary history), and of the most important social and cultural dimensions of contemporary India.
The course will cover topics such as: religions, linguistic diversity, castes, classes, migrations from the village to the city and abroad, culture of cities, towns and countryside, situation of women, situation of LGBT+ people, modern Indian identity.
