Metapragmatics 3322-METAPRAG-OG
Metapragmatics is one of the latest, currently developing methods of research on the use of language. It is distinguished by the fact that the linguist is looking for answers to research questions not by way of creating and testing artificially fabricated models of linguistic phenomena, but by analyzing the everyday utterances of native speakers about verbal and non-verbal communication events.
The workshop’s aim is to exercise the methods of linguistic research by jointly reading and analyzing scientific texts on metapragmatics.
Classes will be held every two weeks. Each meeting will consist of two units and have two parts. The first unit will be devoted to reading texts from the course bibliography list. The second unit will cover analysis of the text, discussion of problematic cases, and exercises.
