Panorama of Brazilian Culture (internet course) 3305-PKB-OG

The course presents a broad panorama of contemporary Brazilian culture located in its social and historical context. It proposes a lecture and reflection about various phenomenons of Brazilian culture, providing the participant with texts elaborated in Polish and based on bibliography in Portuguese, as well as with some translated fragments written by Brazilian authors.
Course topics:
1. Introduction to the social, historical, cultural context.
2. Identity in multi-ethnic Brazil.
3. Brazilian mentality.
4. Religions in Brazil.
5. The different faces of Brazilian carnival.
6. Portuguese language in the Brazilian variant and Brazilian literature.
7. The musical panorama of Brazil.
8. Cinematography.
9. Brazilian cuisine
10. Telenovelas and their impact on Brazilian society.
11. Sports in Brazil - the importance of football and capoeira.

KNOWLEDGE
On completing the course, the student:
- has a knowledge and understanding of some basic elements of the Brazilian culture as well as of its sociocultural and regional diversity and social and historical context
- has a knowledge and understanding of basic terms (partially in Portuguese) that allow to describe different elements and manifestations of Brazilian culture
- has a basic knowledge of the contemporary social and cultural life in Brazil.
SKILLS
On completing the course, the student:
- is able to search, identify, interpret, analyse and evaluate information about the Brazilian culture, as well as to compare it to other cultures
- is able to discourse about the Brazilian culture, using a variety of channels and techniques, using a variety of sources
- is able to interpret various elements of Brazilian culture in a broader socio-cultural and historical context, as well as in a global context.
SOCIAL COMPETENCE
On completing the course, the student:
- understands the importance of lifelong learning
- is capable of presenting their ideas, concerns, suggestions and arguments for a group of people
- is able to learn online and interact online with other students
- is capable of organizing and promoting some cultural events regarding the Brazilian culture and heritage.
Assessment criteria
The following elements constitute the final grade:
- online tasks results at the Kampus platform (minimum 75%)
- final on-line test result (minimum 60%).
