Looking for (a New?) Identity: Migration Literature of Quebec 3304-2DXW-ST-54-OG
After a brief theoretical introduction on the history of the concept of migration literature and the most popular methods of its analysis, Students will discuss a short text (or a fragment of a longer text) in each class, try to find elements of identity discourse in it and understand how Quebec is described from an "external" perspective, which often quickly changes to an "internal" perspective, and what multiculturalism in Canada is all about.
During the classes, fragments of texts by the following writers will be discussed: Régine Robin, Naïm Kattan, Alice Parizeau, Ying Chen, Dany Laferrière, Abla Farhoud, Anne-Marie Alonzo, Zarqa Nawaz.
