The seminar is conducted in French.
The seminar aims at presenting Molière's works and broadening knowledge about the French theatre of the 17th century. The reading and analysis of selected texts of Molière's plays will allow the students to familiarise themselves with the main characteristics of Molière's comedies and various interpretations of the playwright's works. The readings will include Molière's great and well-known comedies as well as farce, comedy-ballet, lesser-known works, and theoretical texts on Molière's theatre and 17th-century French comedy. One of the topics will be Molière's biography, and in particular the lesser-known threads of the writer's life, as well as excerpts from archival material on Molière's troupe. We will also look at some representations of Molière's plays in French Comedy.
