The course will be devoted to the broadly understood relationship between linguistic diversity and social divisions. It will provide an introduction to sociolinguistic research on the topics of exclusion, linguistic discrimination and hate speech in relation to social structure and the situation of social minorities using selected examples. The basic issues discussed will be devoted to problems such as language policy, linguistic norm, diversity of language variants, as well as the concepts of linguistically mediated domination and symbolic power. These phenomena will be discussed mainly on the example of Francophone and European countries using tools such as discourse analysis and corpus research.

4. Language as an asset or tool of exclusion in the labor market.
5. Linguistically mediated stereotypes and hate speech against national and ethnic minorities on the example of analysis of political discourse in Poland.
6. Multilingual state(s) in the face of the phenomenon of nationalism. Strategies for dealing with the divisions of public spheres on the example of Belgium, Switzerland and Canada
