Compositional-stylistic, psychological, socio-historical analysis of dramatic texts (each person chooses one of the five proposed one-act plays by French-speaking authors), set in the history of literature and theater. In the second part of the semester, discussion on individual staging projects, with references to various directions in art and philosophy.
The starting point is a recapitulation of the basic aesthetic categories regarding composition, conventions, genres and determinants of the dramatic text and theater performance based on a production watched together (in the theater and/or on video). The repertoire of analysis tools is gradually expanded during analyzes and presentations of selected items. During the classes, issues such as the freedom of staging in relation to the text, the consequences of transgressive designs, and the perspectives of postmodern art are discussed.

After passing the seminar, the student:
- knows and understands: the chronology of changes in French theater, the principles and conventions governing French theater from the 17th to the 20th century, and knows and applies the methodology of literary research, as he knows the concepts discussed in the field of history and theory of literature, including theater through the discussed texts, which he analyzes in the broad context of humanities (K_W01, K_W04, K_W05, K_W09, K_W10, K_W12)
- is able to: connect various literary phenomena, draw parallels between authors and texts, is able to independently analyze a literary text referring to the acquired literary approaches, apply the acquired knowledge in undertaken professional activities (K_U05, K_U06, K_U12)
- is ready to care for the French cultural heritage, also in its Polish context, and to comply with the basic principles of professional ethics and the principles of intellectual property and copyright protection (K_K04, K_K06)

Assessment methods and criteria:
Pass conditions: active presence (knowledge of works selected by the lecturer and definitions of terms as a starting point for general discussion), two exposés of 20 minuts = analysis of the text of your choice, description of the proposed staging. Written work in class (mid-semester) and a final test (15 min) allow for an oral test (the reading list and topics given in the middle of the semester coincide with the program). More than three unexcused absences in a semester will result in removal from the roll.
