In the footsteps of German-speaking artists – a journey through the corners of Germany, Austria and Switzerland 3302-SNA-OG
Acquainting the students with selected German-speaking artists, their work and places on the map of Germany that have significantly influenced their artistic and social development. The aim is to provide knowledge in the field of cultural studies, art history and research in the field of epistolography
- in the footsteps of selected artists: m.in. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe – Frankfurt am Main/Weimar; Friedrich Schiller – Weimar; Robert Schumann – Leipzig/Dresden/Bonn; Richard Wagner – Bayreuth; Gustav Mahler and Oskar Kokoschka – Vienna; Kandinsky's Wassily – Munich/Murnau am Staffelsse; Max Frisch – Zurich, Walter Gropius – Berlin/Weimar/Dessau-Rosslau
- short outlines of epochs and curiosities from the life of the artists, outline based on source texts (letters, diaries, memoirs)
- introduction to artistic, home, family and social life – characteristics of their creative work, habits, customs, loves and friendships (source texts, photos, films)
- characteristics of creativity and characteristics of places – influences of the environment, nature, culture as a source of inspiration
- the role of place, belonging, and its absence in the context of artistic activity (cities, water bodies, islands)
- an attempt to interpret works of art based on the knowledge of trends, aspects of cultural studies, friendship and love
- Creativity of artistic couples – inspiration or competition?

Learning outcomes
The student is able to:
search, analyse, evaluate, select and use information and develop research skills in the field of culture of the German-speaking countries as well as comparative cultural and literary studies
The student is ready to:
cooperation and work in a group, taking on different roles in it, and defining priorities for the implementation of a task defined by oneself or others and participation in cultural life, using various media and its various forms.
Assessment criteria
Classes are conducted in the form of a seminar. Credit on the basis of a presentation or a written term paper.
