Autobiographical narratives in German language literature 3302-NALM-OG
The autobiography and related genres in German language literature of the 19th-21st century.
Theoretical point of departure: particularly the concept of the „autobiographical pact” developed by Philippe Lejeune
Issues:
· Autobiography versus memories, essays, (short) stories and the autobiographical novel
· Truth and fiction in autobiographical texts
· The author as a literary „construct
· ”Childhood and crucial experiences in life, the „living through” history and everyday life as topics of autobiographical texts
Working methods:
Contextualizing and discussing texts prepared at home (the maximum length of a text: 100 pages, the length of most readings is 50 pages)
Short presentation related to the topics of the classes
