Translation Workshop. Translating Functional Texts in English 3300-WPTTU-B-OG
The aim of the course is to improve students’ language skills, both in Polish and in English. Students are going to translate various functional texts (i.e. non-literary texts, texts that do not include complex terminology), both in class and at home. Sample texts might include tourist texts, brochures, press articles, reviews etc. During classes, we are going to discuss major structural, grammatical and lexical differences between Polish and English, talk about the most popular mistakes and translation problems and look for possible strategies of dealing with them.
Texts are going to be selected after consulting with the participants.

Learning outcomes
Students gain practical skills regarding translating texts into Polish and into English, they are able to solve translation problems and select proper translation strategies, they can effectively search for information.
Assessment criteria
Requirements
1) class attendance (2 absences allowed),
2) completing tasks in class and participating in discussions,
3) completing 3 homework tasks.
