Introduction to Latin American literature - first part 3223-WLL-OG
Students learn the literature of Latin America - the most important trends and works - as well as the broader context of Latin America, necessary to understand the Latin American literary and historical processes: history, social and political issues, culture, arts.

1. Outline of colonial literature:
Chronicles of India. Prose and epic poetry of discovery and conquest (Juan de Castellanos, Alonso de Ercilla, Diaz del Castillo).
The poetry of Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz. The epic of colonial period: from Rodriguez Freyle to Fernandez Lizardi.
2. Literature of Latin America in the nineteenth century
3. Panorama of Latin American literature in the twentieth century:
trends, currents, themes and motifs, literary generations, forms and literary genres. Review of selected national literatures.
