The main aim of the course is to familiarize students with the historical and contemporary processes and events taking place in the history of Ukrainian lands and Ukraine in the period from the 10th century, and to introduce the basic concepts of the history of Ukraine.

The following topics will be discussed:
1. Kievan Rus - divided heritage
2. Political and cultural transfer towards Moscow
3. Translatio imperii towards Halicko-Volyn Rus
4. Meeting of Rus with Rus
5. Religious issues between Rome and Moscow
3. Cossacks and Ukraine between Poland and Muscovite Ruthenia
4. National revival in contemporary Ukrainian lands
5. Ukrainian nationalism in the 20th century
6. Ukrainian maidan and identity transformation
7. Warfare 2022

Prerequisites (description)

The classes are devoted to issues including the intersection of political, social, religious and cultural influences of the Western and Eastern worlds on the territory of Ukraine from the beginning of Kievan Rus until modern times.
