Introduction to terminology 3222-WT-OG
The course introduces students to the fundamental concepts of terminology as a subdiscipline of linguistics. The aim of the course is to familiarize participants with the role of terms in specialized communication and their significance across various fields of knowledge. It covers the general principles of terminology formation, organization, and description, as well as its functioning in academic and professional contexts. The classes are discussion-based and foster the development of analytical skills and the conscious use of specialized language. Students learn to identify basic terminological phenomena and understand their importance in practical communication. Furthermore, the course supports the development of linguistic and analytical competencies valuable for both further studies and future professional careers.

Upon completion of the course, the student
knows and understands:
S1_W01 advanced terminology and research methodology in the field of linguistics, particularly terminology studies;
S1_W04 advanced interrelations of philological research and its complex connections with other academic disciplines;
S1_W07 advanced key issues related to the development and functioning of the contemporary Ukrainian language in various fields;
S1_W10 the Ukrainian language in speech and writing in accordance with the requirements specified for at least the B2+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR);
S1_W12 basic concepts and principles concerning intellectual property protection and copyright law.
is able to:
S1_U01 appropriately select sources and information derived from them, conduct critical analysis, creative interpretation, and presentation of information in the field of Ukrainian lexicology;
S1_U04 apply appropriate research methods and tools in the field of Ukrainian linguistics;
S1_U07 formulate and test hypotheses related to research in the field of Ukrainian linguistics;
S1_U12 communicate orally and in writing in Ukrainian in accordance with the requirements specified for at least the B2+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR);
І1_U14 independently plan and pursue lifelong learning.

69% - 77% - 3+ (ocena dostateczna plus)
60% – 68% - 3 (ocena dostateczna)
The student is entitled to two unexcused absences; each subsequent absence requires submission of a valid excuse. The lecturer decides whether an absence is accepted as justified. The form of assessment for classes missed by the student is determined by the lecturer. Exceeding 50% of both excused and unexcused absences may constitute grounds for failing the course.
The student has the right to take the resit examination during the retake session in the same form as in the main examination session.
