English-Polish translation workshop 3222-WAP6WR[B2]-OG
The classes are focused on micro- and macro-structure of texts, structural differences between Polish and English texts, and cultural differences
between source and target languages. The aim is also to practise using compensation methods in the remit of structures, lexical units, and cultures in translating from English into Polish.
Teaching contents:
1. Introduction to the course; unit of translation; the concept of equivalence
2. Using dictionaries and other sources
2. Translating SL structures absent in TL (Eng-Pol, Pol-Eng)
3. Translating proper names
4. Translating titles, headlines, slogans
5. Translating idioms, proverbs and false friends
6. Features of formality and informality
10. Translating SL cultural associations absent in the TL
Types of text translated throughout the course include
a) marketing texts
b) historical texts
c) legal texts

60% - 68% - 3 (satisfactory)
69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus)
78% - 86% - 4 (good)
87% - 95% - 4+ (good plus)
96% - 98% - 5 (very good)
99% -100% - 5! (Very good rating with an exclamation mark)
it is obligatory to attend classes The student has the right to 3 unexcused absences.
The form of crediting the classes in which the student was absent is determined by the lecturer.
