The aim of the course is to provide students with in-depth knowledge of avant-garde tendencies and trends in European literature and art of the 20th century (1900-1939). The term avant-garde (French avant garde - "advance guard") is understood here broadly, as a set of artistic tendencies cutting themselves off from tradition, the aim of which is to create their own world, and not to imitate reality (rejection of mimesis), searching for original ideological and artistic solutions and own language of expression.
The classes will be devoted to the analysis of selected literary texts, works of art, ballet, cinema and music.

Assessment criteria
Teaching methods providing: description, explanation, discussion, talk.
Search teaching methods: exercises based on the use of various sources of knowledge (film, photographs, texts, audio recordings), analysis of source texts.
