Ukrainian language in diplomacy and politics 3222-JUDP3C-OG
During the course, students will explore the culture and linguistic specifics of diplomacy and politics. They will expand their specialized vocabulary related to international cooperation with Ukrainian partners and enrich their terminology in the field of diplomacy and politics through the study of selected texts and specialist literature.
The course prepares students to work independently on understanding, analyzing, and translating content-diverse texts in the specialized domain.
Students become familiar with the political and diplomatic realities of Ukraine and Poland. Through working with professional texts, they also gain general knowledge about, among other things, Ukraine’s cooperation with the European Union and other countries around the world.
Student workload:
• Contact hours – 30 hrs
• Preparation for each class – 30 hrs
• Exam preparation – 30 hrs
Total: 90 hrs (3 ECTS)
If it is not possible to conduct classes in a stationary form, classes will be held using remote communication tools, most likely Google Meet and others recommended by the University of Warsaw.

Upon completion of the course, the student:
Knows and understands:
K_W04 – the interrelations of philological research and its complex dependencies with other academic disciplines, at an advanced level.
K_W05 – the psychological foundations of language functioning, in an advanced and in-depth manner.
K_W07 – in depth, the key issues related to the development and functioning of contemporary Ukrainian in various fields.
K_W10 – the Ukrainian language in speech and writing, in accordance with the requirements of at least B2+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Is able to:
K_U01 – appropriately select sources and extract relevant information; conduct critical analysis, creative interpretation, and presentation of information related to the Ukrainian language.
K_U10 – communicate on specialist topics with diverse groups of recipients.
K_U12 – communicate in spoken and written Ukrainian in accordance with the requirements of at least B2+ level of the CEFR.
Is ready to:
K_K01 – critically assess their own knowledge and the content they receive.
Assessment criteria
The course ends with a final exam.
Conditions for being admitted to the exam:
- Attendance at classes
- Regular preparation of assigned materials for each class
- Active participation in classes, timely completion and submission of assignments.
The course concludes with a written exam. The final grade is also determined based on percentage thresholds:
60% - 69% - 3 (satisfactory)
70% - 77% - 3+ (rated satisfactory plus)
78% - 85% - 4 (good)
86% - 91% - 4+ (good plus)
92% - 97% - 5 (very good)
98% -100% - 5! (Very good with an exclamation mark)
