English for Marketing - Business in Central and Eastern Europe 3222-JAMB3C-OG
The course aims to develop students’ language competence in English for marketing, focusing on the context of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Emphasis is placed on the specificities, challenges and trends in marketing as well as communication and cultural aspects. During the classes, students will develop both the ability to use the specialised language of marketing, as well as gain knowledge, among other things, in the field of market strategies, data analysis, and business communication.
The student’s workload includes:
contact hours (in class) – 30 hours
preparing for classes – 20 hours
preparation for the final test – 10 hours

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student:
- will know and understand to an in-depth degree how philological research intersects with other scientific disciplines (S1_W04)
- will know and understand to a deeper degree the psychological basis of language functioning (S1_W05)
- will know and understand both spoken and written English in accordance with the requirements of at least C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (S1_W11)
- will be able to debate on specialist subjects (S1_U11)
- will be able to communicate orally and in writing in English according to the requirements specified for at least C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (S1_U13)
- will be able to think and act in an entrepreneurial way and to initiate actions benefitting the public interest or the social environment (S1_K02)
Assessment criteria
Requirements for getting a credit for the subject:
- attendance
- preparation for classes
- active participation in classes
- written tests
- project
- final written test
The final mark is:
- 10% continuous assessment (preparation for classes, active participation)
- 20% tests
- 20% project
- 50% final written test

99% -100% - 5!
96% - 98 % - 5
87% - 95% - 4+
78% - 86% - 4
69% - 77% - 3+
60% – 68% - 3
The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, and each subsequent one requires an explanation to be given. The teacher decides how the student will make up for any other unjustified absences.
In the event of failing to pass the course by the last class of the semester, the student must pass the course and get a mark during the initial exam period or the retake exam period on the same terms as at the first attempt.
