Ukrainian descriptive grammar - morphology 3222-GOM-OG
The course takes the form of a seminar, the aim of which is to broaden and supplement students’ knowledge of the subject and the tasks of morphology, as well as to introduce them to research in the field of morphology. Students consolidate their existing knowledge and familiarize themselves with detailed information on the inflectional system of the Ukrainian language, taking into account historical processes and comparisons with Polish. The course also presents differences in the approaches of various researchers and the latest research in the field of inflection and word formation.
At the same time, significant attention is devoted to practicing difficult and rare forms, with the aim of simultaneously developing students’ language skills.
Student workload:
classroom contact hours – 30 hours
preparation for each class – approx. 30 hours

Learning outcomes
The student has an advanced knowledge of:
- the terminology and methodology of linguistic research (K1_W01);
- the complex nature of language and its historical evolution (K1_W04);
- the current state and trends in the development of the modern Ukrainian language (K1_W06).
The student is able to:
- search for, critically analyze and evaluate, select, and use information concerning the Ukrainian language (K1_U01);
- apply theoretical approaches specific to Ukrainian linguistics (K1_U02);
- formulate and solve a research problem in the field of Ukrainian linguistics (K1_U05);
- communicate with others using philological terminology (K1_U08).
Assessment criteria
Conditions for completing the course and admission to the final exam:
- continuous assessment, ie active participation in classes, passing tests, participation on individual presentation (analyse of the language)
The course ends with a written exam, where the assessment criteria are presented in the form of percentage thresholds (points obtained from the written exam)
60% - 68% - 3 (satisfactory)
69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus)
78% - 86% - 4 (good)
87% - 90% - 4+ (good plus)
91%-98% - 5 (very good)
99% -100% - 5! (Very good with an exclamation mark)
Student can sit an exam for the second time in second session. The exam has the same form and condition as during first time.
The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires an explanation. The lecturer will decide whether to accept absence or not.
The form for completion of classes on which the student was absent is determined by the lecturer.
If the total absences excused and unexcused exceeds 50 % of classes, this may be the basis to which the student fails the course.
