Development of communicative competence in Ukrainian (C1) 3222-50KKKU1C[C1]-OG

The aim of the course is to train skills at the corresponding C1+ level of the CEF in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and to acquire and extend students' linguistic competence in terms of excellent understanding of written and spoken texts, communicating without mistakes, expressing one's own opinion using the lexical resources and knowledge obtained, and communicating in diverse social situations.
The content of the teaching is subordinated to the assumption of openness to the cognitive and communicative needs of the students and to their intentions related to the possibility of obtaining the qualification necessary for their future profession or functioning in the country whose language they are studying. As indicated above, the course includes a series of practical exercises, aimed at basic communicative situations, through which students acquire the vocabulary and grammatical rules of the language.

The course concludes with an examination.

Total: 120 hrs (4 ECTS)

If it is not possible to conduct classes in a stationary form, classes will be held using distance communication tools, most likely ZOOM, CLASSROOM and others recommended by the University of Warsaw.

Prerequisites (description)

The student knows Ukrainian at least on B2 level.

Learning outcomes

The student knows and understands:
in an advanced manner, the relationships between philological research and their complex interconnections with other academic disciplines (S1_W04);
in an advanced manner, the psychological foundations of language functioning (S1_W05);
in an advanced manner, key issues related to the development and functioning of contemporary Ukrainian in various fields (S1_W07);
the Ukrainian language in speech and writing in accordance with the requirements set for at least the C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (S1_W10).

The student is able to:
communicate on specialist topics with diverse audiences (S1_U10);
communicate in spoken and written Ukrainian in accordance with the requirements set for at least the C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (S1_U12);
manage a team (S1_U15).

The student is ready to:
think and act in an entrepreneurial manner and to initiate actions in the public interest or for the benefit of the social environment (S1_K02)

Assessment criteria

The course concludes with a written examination.
Requirements for admission to the final examination
- systematic preparation of the material covered in class
- punctual completion of homework
- writing control tests in due time.
The final mark consists of the work during the semester (30%) and the exam result (70%).
The subject ends with an exam, where the assessment criteria are presented in the form of percentage thresholds (points obtained from the exam)
60% - 68% - 3 (sufficient grade)
69% - 77% - 3+ (pass mark)
78% - 85% - 4 (good)
86% - 91% - 4+ (good plus)
92% - 97% - 5 (very good grade)
98% -100% - 5 !(grade very good with an exclamation mark)
In the event of a failing grade, the student has the right to retake the examination in the same form provided the student receives credit for the course. The lecturer may set additional credit conditions for absences.
A student is entitled to 2 out of every 30 hours of unexcused absences, each subsequent absence requires the submission of an excuse.
The form of credit for classes in which the student has been absent is determined by the lecturer.
Exceeding excused and unexcused absences in 50% of classes may be grounds for failing the course.
