Belarussian descriptive grammar. Morphology I 3221-S1-0GBM12K
The seminar is designed to
1. familiarize the student with basic concepts and terms of morphology as the science of word formation language system, i.e. the basics of morphonology; with matters relating to the synchronous and diachronic word-formation
2. present the categories and types of word formation
3. indicate the methods of derivatives analysis .
The final part of the seminar is devoted to consideration of general issues concerning inflection, such as the notion of grammatical category; nominal and verbal grammatical categories, lexical division on functional classes, Belarusian and Polish lexemes classification systems for parts of speech; conventionality od the division, liquidity limits, controversial problems in the classification of lexemes - building of the inflective construction: root, inflectional exponent.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, student:
1. KNOWLEDGE: student understands and has an advanced knowledge of
- subject and methodological characteristics of research in Belarusian studies as well as terminology used in this area
- the most significant theories of literary and language studies
- the complex nature of a natural language, especially Belarusian
- Belarusian terminology of language studies
2. SKILLS: student can
- recognise various language structures within single utterances and assess them in terms of their correct usage
- recognise language structures and assess them in terms of their correct usage
- use the terminology of language studies in the process of analysing linguistic occurrences
- evaluate the level of his or her knowledge and skills as well as the awareness of the need for increasing knowledge and improving skills
3. SOCIAL COMPETENCES: student is ready to
- identify and solve dilemmas about the profession of a language specialist
Assessment criteria
Passing the seminar a basis of the presence control, the current preparation for classes, written tests.
