This course analyzes the dynamics of historical, social, political, and cultural processes related to Russian (Soviet) colonialism in Belarus. Emphasis will be placed on the cultural landscape of Belarus, including its language, literature, art, museums, and symbols.
The classes will consist of two parts: theoretical and practical.
Topics covered:
1. Colonialism as a Phenomenon: Types and Aspects of Colonialism.
Colonial Worldview and Philosophy.
2. Consequences of Colonialism. Postcolonialism and Decoloniality.
3. The History and Modernity of Colonialism.
4. Distinctive Features of Russian Colonialism and the Theory of Internal Colonization.
5. Colonialism and Culture.
6. Colonialism and Visuality. The Intelligentsia and Colonialism.
7. Decolonization. Politics, Economics, Culture. Decolonization of Consciousness.
8. The Process of Decolonization on Belarusian Lands. Borderland Theory. Belarus and Russia.
