All you need to know about Fryderyk Chopin is a course led jointly by six professors from the Institute of Musicology specializing in different areas of Chopin Studies: hermeneutics, musical analysis, ethnomusicology, music & economy, music & politics, psychology, and popular music studies. The course will give you a thorough understanding of the music of Fryderyk Chopin allowing you to appreciate and enjoy the legacy of the most famous and most widely recognized alumnus of the University of Warsaw. Some of the lectures will include workshops introducing you to the song and dance culture of Chopin’s Warsaw.

Learning outcomes
Students have a general understanding of the music of Fryderyk Chopin.
Students have an in-depth understanding of the selected works by Fryderyk Chopin.
Students have a general knowledge of the culture of Fryderyk Chopin’s Warsaw.
Students can listen with understanding to the music of Fryderyk Chopin.
Students can dance the basic steps of the dances danced by Fryderyk Chopin.
Students can sing selected songs that inspired Fryderyk Chopin’s works.
Assessment criteria
1. Class attendance (a mandatory requirement for passing the course) – two absences per semester are permitted; any additional absences must be made up by preparing a written note based on the readings assigned by the instructor.
2. Written assignment on a topic of the student’s choice related to the themes discussed in class.
